Starting a Community
Center:
by AI
A community center is necessary, but
you may find that some people do not see the need as clearly as you do.
That is
because most things today appeal to the wrong senses.
They are motivated by
greed, something for nothing !
And of course, FREE is the most powerful
word of all !
Centers that will survive, will be
self supporting.
Their operating expenses will...
Not
come from government handouts, or through donations from a single individual...
Nor will it come from corporate sponsorship.
Centers will not survive with the
labor of a few...
But will flourish with the enthusiastic involvement of the
many.
Each person seeing clearly how he/she will benefit, by getting
involved.
The energies, creativity and the
talents of each person in your own community must be identified, encouraged and
used.
Each person has a gift
to be shared.
Each gift is a barter
for the things of this world, each trade is for the good of the group.
Each person gains as
contributions of talent and expertise increase.
People try new ideas
constantly that raise money for the center.
Finally after 1,000
attempts...
Someone realizes that
your community has a unique combination of talents that, together, are very
difficult to recreate anywhere else...
And your center
becomes profitable.
Imagine being able to
pay heat, lights, telephone, rent, all with the money you have generated
together as a community...
Making environmentally
safe widgets to sell!
You may still be
thinking that governments will to do it;
Or, just one rich
benefactor will get this center started;
Or the right company
and connections;
Or
you have got 'the ultimate' - a corporate sponsor.
To start a
successful center you need to trust the intelligence and hard working people
that live around you in your community.
Have a car wash this
spring, sell something you make as an individual, or as a community team.
Get a
bottle drive going on earth day, or green up day. Get $50.00 in the bank and
develop ways to make it $500.00.
Have a really good barbecue, a community
supper, or a yard sale.
Get $500.00 in
a community bank account and make
$5,000.00.
You think your cookies
taste good!
Have a bake sale that knocks their socks off...
Sell
advertising space in your new community newsletter.
Talk to the
clergy about announcing upcoming events.
Encourage
the police to spend extra hours looking after activities.
Get elders
to volunteer to teach people to read and write and pay them what they need.
There are
no problems in your community that can Not be solved.
Sell T - shirts with your
unique logo...
( "I
survived the startup of our Community Center" ),
Sell fresh
vegetables from the community garden, get going.
Feed the
elderly, get shoes for the kids and ask for help from neighboring community
centers.
Set up a
credit voucher system insuring everybody pays his own way in labor of some kind
for the value received.
Get older
folks working on the communities history, genealogy, art, anecdotes, etc.
Believe
that you can do it and you're half done already !!!
I know
you've got it now.
Start small
and the rest will follow.
I know
you/we can do it together.
Eventually
there will be thousands of community centers taking care of each others
families, friends, relatives...
And our
extended global families.
There are
many people just like you who see a need and want to...
Do
something today.
You are not
alone...
Any two
people gathered together to help one another constitutes...
Community...
And You and
I are one !!
